A Navajo cowboy adjusts the length of his stirrups during the annual Keith J. Boyd Memorial Rodeo in Lower Greasewood, Arizona. The Navajo have a long tradition of rodeo and ranching. They began herding in the seventeenth century , soon after the Spanish introduced horses, cattle and sheep into the Southwest. By the 1920s, the Navajo were gathering to race horses rodeo-style, often circling the wagons to form an arena.
